She wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but I told my brother that once Azul and I are settled in the house, I'd take Yoda. She's been upset and mostly in hiding upstairs ever since they brought the St. Bernard home, and she's really not thrilled about the new kittens. Pieter told me they've been trying to find her another home, but everyone who's been interested said they either wanted her declawed first or that they would have her declawed. Ugh. Poor Yoda.

So, assuming she can hold out up in Rockford at the scary kitten-and-dog-infested house for at least another couple of months, Yoda will eventually be joining 'Zul and me in a much, much quieter and dog-free home. I like Yoda. She's gray, stripey, shy, and likes to sleep with humans. It may take a while for her and Zuli to adjust to each other, but I think they'll get along just fine. The only reasons she isn't what I had in mind are that she's small and female. I prefer big cats, and I've bonded with more male cats.

Of course, we're talking about a cat that lives with Pieter and Sherry, which means that even though I've just promised to take Yoda, my brother could call me any time and say they "got rid of" her. I wish they'd stop saying "get rid of." She's a cat, not Ebola. She doesn't need to be gotten rid of, just found a better home.

In other news, since I'm going to have to cancel my appointment at UCMC and don't know when I'll be able to see Dr. Ghabra (here in town), I decided to go ahead and get some stuff that probably won't help me sleep, but might be good for me anyway: a therapy lamp that simulates dawn and dusk, and a tai chi DVD. Also, 24 chocolate brownie Clif bars.

Pieter and I are meeting Kate's dad (Charlie) and the realtor at the house at 9. I want Pieter to see it, and I want Charlie to look it over and tell me what problems he sees. This makes me a little nervous. I think I did a good job of choosing; I think there aren't any major problems.

Then Pieter has an appointment in Hinsdale at 1:15. I know "Hinsdale," like most other places I mention, doesn't mean anything to most people who read this. All you really need to know about it is that it's where my brother's doctor's office is and that it's about an hour east of DeKalb on the tollway.

Completely unrelated: I'm planning to get my hair cut. Seriously cut. Going from almost all the way down my back to above my shoulders. I don't especially want to cut it that short, but I can't deal with hair this long right now. My mother, my sister, Kate, and probably my cat, if he could express it, all want me to cut my hair. My father, who I still can't believe has an opinion about my hair, wants me to keep it long. "It's almost Morticia length," he said last night. "It looks nice." [Sighs.] Yes, Dad, it looks OK—not very good, but OK—when I wear it down. The thing is that I almost never wear it down, because I never blowdry it, so it spends 90% of its time twisted up tight into a wet bun and held with a scrunchie or two, which does nobody any favors. I'd like to know how to put my hair into a braid like that one... Uh. Prime minister? Of somewhere around Russia? I think? [Googles.] Good, good. I'm not totally losing it: Yulia Tymoshenko. Former prime minister of Ukraine. Her hair.

If you are going to cut your hair you should donate it to locks of love.

and I've been meaning to ask... what's the deal with buying a house? Will it be your house?

Well... It's a little complicated. A friend decided to kill two birds with one stone by buying investment property and helping me out at the same time. I'll live in the house and be the legal owner, but really the house belongs to my benefactor.
